Hockey Uniforms

Every person who plays on an organized sport is on the team, therefore, they must all wear matching uniforms. Hockey uniforms are no exception. The only difference between the major sports are basically their uniforms and what is added to them to make them complete. For example, in football, a helmet is certainly part of the uniform. However, in hockey, a helmet is not an official requirement. Although, for safety reasons, many players do wear one.

What else is considered part of the official hockey uniform? This is the sweater, due to the cold nature of the sport and also considered to be the jersey which most people know it as, the pants, which are shorter than most, the socks and skates, and the gloves. These are the basic uniform requirements for hockey. The helmet, as mentioned earlier is the only basic optional part of this ensemble.

It is the jersey that must absolutely match each and every other on the team. There are variations to all the other pieces that are allowable. This is very evident in the goalies masks. Now days, each goalie has there specifically designed mask complete with sometimes intimidating airbrush graphics on them. These graphics can and do depict items such as skulls and monsters, with some being very detailed and scary. Gone are the standard plain white mask. However, these which are described are primarily the professional level type masks and not the younger leagues.

And, although the basic uniform consists of these pieces or parts, they are not brand specific and are flexible. They do have to employ the same color scheme as the team though. And, as for the socks, they are flexible in brand also, however, they are required to have a horizontal striping system.

When it comes to the jersey, most hockey teams, as well as other sports, employ two different color schemes. This is so the players from each team can be easily found and are primarily for the team's benefit. For example, a home team may wear a dark colored jersey and the away team will wear a light or white colored jersey. Recently, with hockey and football especially, the teams have incorporated a third, or throwback jersey. These jersey's are specifically worn a couple of games a year and will depict one of the team's older jersey versions. Usually, these throwback style jersey's are from the many years ago version of the team as they were depicted of know to look then.

There are basic parts of the hockey uniforms that must remain the same throughout, and then there are certain parts that how a variable allowance with each. These variables must at the very least adhere to a certain color scheme.
